Archaeological Site Ancient Lacedaemonian city near Sparta with ruins
Amyclae (Amyklai) is an ancient site in the Peloponnese, historically located near Sparta and noted in antiquity for its sanctuary dedicated to Apollo and the archaic cult of Hyacinthus. It figures in classical literary and religious accounts as an important local cult centre in Laconia.
Archaeological remains at the site include foundation levels and fragmentary architectural elements interpreted as parts of the sanctuary complex and associated structures. The site was influential in archaic and classical periods before being incorporated into the Spartan state.
