Ambato is served directly by the regional Aeropuerto de Ambato - Chachoán (ATF) and is within driving distance of Quito's Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO). There is no regular passenger rail service to Ambato, so most visitors arrive by air and continue by interprovincial bus or private transfer.

By Air

Aeropuerto de Ambato - Chachoán (ATF): Ground-level regional airport a short drive from Ambato city centre. Taxis from the airport into central Ambato take about 10-20 minutes and typically cost around USD 4-8; some drivers will offer a slightly higher fixed-rate for luggage. There is no formal airport shuttle - local buses/collectivos serve nearby roads for about USD 0.25-0.50 and take 15-30 minutes depending on where you disembark and walk.

Quito - Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO): Quito is the nearest major international airport for most international arrivals. From UIO you can take a private transfer or taxi directly to Ambato (about 2.5-3.5 hours driving) with private-transfer prices commonly in the USD 80-130 range; a cheaper option is to get to Terminal Terrestre Quitumbe (taxi or airport shuttle) and take an interprovincial bus to Ambato (see bus card). The bus leg from Quitumbe to Ambato takes roughly 3-3.5 hours and fares are typically in the USD 2.50-4.50 range.

By Train & Bus

Train: Ambato does not have regular commuter rail service.
