Aljaž Tower
Tower Aljaž Tower on Triglav summit symbol of mountaineering
High on a Slovenian Alpine ridge, the small metal Aljaž Tower marks mountaineering routes on Triglav; climbers and hikers use it as a waypoint and national-symbol landmark.
The Aljaž Tower (Aljažev stolp) is a small metal tower placed on the summit of Mount Triglav in the Julian Alps, erected in 1895. It is closely associated with Slovene mountaineering and national symbolism.
Hikers who reach Triglav’s summit encounter the tower as a compact shelter and landmark at the very top of the mountain. The summit itself is at 2,864 metres and the tower is a frequent photo subject for climbers completing the ascent.
Jakob Aljaž, a priest and mountaineer, commissioned and erected the tower in 1895 to provide shelter on the summit and to assert Slovene presence in the mountains. The structure has been repaired and conserved over time and remains protected as part of Slovenian mountain heritage.
Positioned on the summit of Mount Triglav within Triglav National Park, the tower lies in the Municipality of Kranjska Gora in northwestern Slovenia. The summit is accessed via established alpine routes from valleys such as Krma and Vrata.
