Aigosthena is an ancient coastal fortress on the Attic shore of the Gulf of Corinth, known for its substantial defensive masonry dating to the Classical and Hellenistic periods.
Visitors encounter conspicuous polygonal curtain walls, multiple towers and a prominent sea-facing wall that protected the headland; these remains form an easily inspected fortification complex.
The fortification was constructed and used in the Classical and Hellenistic eras and continued to see reuse in later periods as the coastline remained strategically important.
The ruins occupy a coastal promontory in northwestern Attica on the Gulf of Corinth, placing the site on the western seaboard of the Attica region.
