Agios Nikolaos Anapafsa is a small monastery perched on a rock within the Meteora monastic complex in Thessaly, Greece, and dates mainly to the 16th century. It is recognized for its internal wall paintings.
The monastery contains a compact church with 16th-century frescoes and a modest courtyard; the site is smaller and less architecturally imposing than some of the larger Meteora monasteries. Access is by a stepped path up the rock and the site is commonly visited on Meteora walking routes.
Established in the late Byzantine to post-Byzantine period, the present buildings and decorative program largely reflect 16th-century monastic activity at Meteora. The church frescoes are the primary surviving historic feature.
The monastery stands on one of the sandstone pillars of Meteora near the town of Kalabaka in central Greece, within the cluster of monastic sites that overlook the Thessalian plain.
