Aggtelek Karst is a karst landscape in northeastern Hungary renowned for its extensive cave systems and limestone formations. The area forms part of Aggtelek National Park and is protected for its geological and speleological value.
The site includes large subterranean networks, the best-known of which is the Baradla-Domica system with long galleries and impressive stalactite and stalagmite formations; parts of this system are accessible by guided tours. The karst surface features sinkholes, dolines and limestone outcrops associated with the underground drainage.
The karst region lies along Hungary’s border with Slovakia in the north-eastern part of the country and is accessible from nearby towns in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County.

How to Get to Aggtelek Karst #
Aggtelek National Park is reachable by road from Miskolc (about 70 km). From Miskolc, take Route 26 toward Kazincbarcika and follow local roads to Jósvafő/Aggtelek (roughly 1-1.5 hours by car). Trains and local buses serve towns near the park; from Jósvafő village the Baradla cave entrance is a short walk.

- Book Baradla cave guided tours in advance in high season (June-Aug).
- Bring a light jacket inside the show caves - temperatures hover around 10-12°C year-round.
- Visit the Jósvafő village viewpoints for a view of the karst plateau and the cave entrance area; the Baradla tour begins nearby.
