Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary - Winaityinaityi Pangkara National Park is a protected coastal reserve in South Australia established to conserve migratory shorebirds and coastal wetland habitats north of the city of Adelaide.

The sanctuary comprises intertidal mudflats, saltmarsh and mangrove areas that support large numbers of waders and migratory shorebirds; it is an important stopover and feeding ground on the East Asian-Australasian Flyway. Public access includes designated viewing areas and birdwatching sites rather than unrestricted access across all wetland zones.

The area was declared as a protected sanctuary to secure habitat for international migratory shorebirds and to coordinate conservation of coastal wetlands across multiple tenure types. Management focuses on habitat protection, monitoring and controlled public access.

The sanctuary lies along the Gulf St Vincent coastline to the north of metropolitan Adelaide in South Australia, covering a coastal stretch of protected intertidal habitat and adjacent shorelines.

  • Best time for birdwatching: Birdwatching is often best around low tide when intertidal flats are exposed and shorebirds concentrate on feeding areas.
