Ada Ciganlija

Ada Ciganlija is a river island on the Sava River within the urban area of Belgrade, Serbia, developed into the city’s main recreational zone and commonly called Belgrade’s seaside. It is a popular leisure destination for swimming, cycling and outdoor sports.

The site offers sandy beaches, an artificial lake used for swimming and rowing, extensive paved cycling and running paths, and numerous sports facilities and cafes. Many Belgraders use it for day visits in warm months and organized sporting events are frequent.

Development of the area into a recreational complex occurred in the 20th century when river engineering and urban planning turned the island into a year-round leisure area, with the lake and beaches established as central features. Facilities have been expanded and modernized through municipal projects.

Ada Ciganlija sits on the Sava River within the municipality of Čukarica in Belgrade, roughly 4 km from the city center, and is connected to the urban transport network.

• Best time to visit: Best visited in late spring and summer when beaches and water sports facilities are open and the island is busiest for outdoor activities.
• Access: Located about 4 km southwest of central Belgrade and accessible by tram, bus and bicycle routes from the city.
