ACMI (museum)

ACMI is the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, a public museum and cultural centre dedicated to film, television, video games and digital culture. It is located at Federation Square in central Melbourne and serves as Australia’s national museum of screen culture.

Exhibitions range from hands-on interactive displays to curated historical collections of film and television artifacts, plus regular temporary exhibitions. The centre also operates cinema and screening spaces, runs education programs and stages public events and festivals.

ACMI opened at Federation Square in the early 2000s as a purpose-built national institution for the moving image and has since developed both permanent and temporary exhibitions that chart screen history and contemporary digital media.

The centre occupies a prominent building at Federation Square on the north bank of the Yarra River, immediately across from Flinders Street Station in Melbourne’s CBD, making it highly accessible to visitors arriving by public transport.
