Abbey Church of Saint Foy

The Abbey Church of Saint Foy in Conques is a Romanesque pilgrimage church in Aveyron, southern France, built mainly in the 11th and 12th centuries. It is renowned for its monumental carved tympanum and for housing the reliquary of Saint Foy.

The west portal features a large carved tympanum illustrating the Last Judgment, and the church interior includes a richly decorated nave, an ambulatory with radiating chapels and a crypt. The church’s treasury displays the ornate, jewel-covered reliquary of Sainte Foy that drew medieval pilgrims.

Originally associated with a local monastic community, the church was constructed in the Romanesque period to enshrine the relics of Saint Foy and to serve pilgrims on the Way of St. James. The site has been preserved and presented as an important example of medieval pilgrimage architecture.

Situated in the village of Conques in the Aveyron department of Occitanie in southern France, the church stands within the historic village core that developed around the abbey.
