Abbazia di Pomposa

Abbazia di Pomposa is a former Benedictine abbey on the Po Delta plain in Emilia-Romagna, notable for its medieval architecture and Romanesque features dating from the 9th to 12th centuries. The complex retains a church, cloister and a prominent bell tower that reflect its medieval monastic importance.

Visitors can see Romanesque fresco cycles and sculpted stonework in the church interior, together with cloister columns and monastic rooms that survive from medieval rebuildings. The abbey was a significant religious and cultural centre in the Middle Ages, with a scriptorium and agricultural estates in the surrounding plains.
