Sintang Travel Guide

Located along the banks of the Kapuas River, the small Dayak village of Singtang is still largely unexplored by tourists, meaning that the rainforest that surrounds it is unspoiled.

Sintang is an area of intense natural beauty. This is a great place for trekking as the rainforest and river are home to a wide range of flora and fauna including wild orangutans swinging through the trees, crocodiles, a number of bird species, and colorful flowers such as orchids. It is even possible to spend the night in the village of Sintang and get to know the Dayak people who live there.

The best way to reach Sintang is by embarking on a cruise along the Kapuas River, which starts near the city of Pontianak. It is best to form a group in the city and take plenty of provisions as the tour usually takes between four and seven days, depending on the type of boat and how many stops you make along the way.

Getting There & Away

Sintang is located just a 2-hour bus or taxi ride from Pontianak, where there is an airport with regular flights to Jakarta (2 hours) and Kuching (1 hour). However, most visitors arrive in Sintang by taking a longboat boat up the river, which takes three or four days from the starting point near Pontianak.
