Road transfer to Shizuishan takes roughly 1.5-2.5 hours (≈120-160 km depending on route); taxis and intercity buses serve the route - fares vary but expect several hundred CNY for a private taxi or lower for coach tickets.

Zhongwei and other regional airports: There are smaller regional airports in Ningxia/Gansu but Yinchuan Hedong is the primary commercial gateway for travellers heading to Shizuishan.

  • Train (varies by train class) - Shizuishan railway station handles regional and some longer‑distance trains; services to Yinchuan and beyond are practical for intercity travel. Book high‑speed/express services when available and arrive early at stations for ticketing.
  • Intercity buses (Low to moderate fares (regional pricing)) - Long‑distance buses link Shizuishan with Yinchuan, Wuzhong and other provincial destinations. They are frequent and generally economical - useful when specific train services are not available.
  • Taxis and ride‑hailing (CNY 10-200) - City taxis and Chinese ride‑hailing apps operate in Shizuishan for convenient short trips and airport transfers. They are reasonably priced for single trips; confirm a meter or app fare beforehand.
  • Private car hire / drivers (negotiable) - Hiring a car with driver is common for visiting mining areas and more remote attractions; roads are variable in rural sections so a local driver helps. Expect higher costs but greater flexibility for multi‑site day trips.
  • Local buses and minibuses (low) - Local buses and minibuses cover most urban routes but can be slow and crowded at peak times. They’re the cheapest way to get around if you’re comfortable with Chinese‑language signage and stops.
