Shigatse is also known as Xigatse, which translates to the Fertile Land.

The beautiful city is surrounded by spectacular mountain ranges including the famous Mount Everest. Shigatse has been constructed in a flat area, which has allowed the city centre to be well laid out. There are countless attractions to visit whilst in Shigatse including the famous Tashihunpo Monastery, which is not only spectacular in beauty but is steeped with history and heritage. Travel to Shigatse - Getting There

Arriving to Shigatse is relatively easy with good connections by highway to the nearby capital city of Lhasa. Lhasa has an international airport with regular flights to most major cities in the region. Flights from Beijing to Lhasa leave each day and take approximately 4 hours.
