every time a sheep is killed in Shapotou, the local people remove the skin and make a balloon out of it, stringing the balloons together to make a base for bamboo flooring.

Shapotou is a sort of playground for those who want to take a brief break from traveling and exploring. Thrill-seekers will want to try out the 1,000-meter long Yellow River Cableway Slide, which is the only one of its kind in China. There are also camel rides, bungy jumps, sand sleds and wall climbs for visitors to try.

This is also one of the sites of the mystical and fabled singing sands. Shapotou's closeness to Zhengzhou makes it a good place to visit on a daytrip as there are plenty of places to stay and good restaurants in Zhengzhou.

Travel to Shapotou - Getting There

Shapotou is located just under an hour from Zhengzhou, which has its own international airport. There are rail connections to Zhengzhou from Beijing (6 to 8 hours), and Shapotou is just a 45-minute bus ride away.
