Sandu Travel Guide

Sandu is a town and county in the southeast of Guizhou Province. It is around 150kms from the capital Guiyang along highway G321. The nearest town, Duyun, is accessible by train from Guiyang.

Sandu lies on a highway where there are many ethnic villages to see, of which the majority are Miao. Sandu itself is a Shui minority region. There’s not much to look at but it is a decent base for visiting the nearby villages. These include the Long-skirt Miao Village and the Yangweng Shui People’s Village with its craftworks.

Sanbao Dong is also nearby. It consists of many little villages in a pretty region across 15kms. There is striking scenery and the Banyan Tree Scenic Area, with its collection of ancient banyan trees, features 20-meter high, six-meter wide beasts.

Getting There & Away

Sandu is best accessed from Guiyang along expressway and highway G321. Buses run here via Duyun in 3 hours, 30 minutes. Rongjiang is 80kms in the other direction. Guiyang’s Longdongbao Airport is big enough to receive flights from major Chinese cities. Beijing is a 3-hour flight away.
