Ozamis is named after Governor José Ozámiz and was previously known as Misamis.

Ozamis is a fairly historic town, stretching back to the Spanish era and featuring many reminders of Spanish colonialism. The city lies at the entrance of the long, thin Panguil Bay in northwest Mindanao, with the massive Mount Malindang looking on. Most people come to Ozamis to see Mount Malindang, to discern the nice seascapes around here, and to check out the colonial past.

Fort Santiago is a major landmark in Ozamis and there are loads of guest houses, shops and restaurants to check out. La Veranda Restaurant at the Royal Garden Hotel is particularly recommended for its fine Filipino specialties.

Travel to Ozamis - Getting There

Many people get to Ozamis by boat as Ozamis is a noted port of this region of Mindanao. The quickest way in, however, is to fly to Labo Airport with Air Philippines - daily flights from Manila take about 90 minutes. Dipolog Airport is another option and then a transfer by bus.
