Nam Tok Silaphet Waterfall

Between Nan and Pua in the north of the province, Nam Tok Silaphet is a pretty waterfall with a swimming pool that locals love on a hot day.

Exploring Nam Tok Silaphet#

The falls are not particularly big but they are quite pretty, dropping about ten feet over a wide cliff into a pool that’s ideal for cooling off. You can reach them via the secondary route to Pua from Nan, which winds through pretty countryside and is well signposted.

Note that you can only visit from November through July, as the rainy season engulfs the access path. You can’t drive directly to the falls - access is by a two-mile path, with small riverside restaurants near its start where you can stock up on food and drink for the trek. Many visitors combine the falls with the nearby hill-tribe village of Ban Pa Klang, whose mostly Hmong residents are renowned silversmiths.

Nam Tok Silaphet: Getting There & Need to Know#

What is it? A small waterfall in northern Nan, accessible only in the cool and dry seasons.
Where: About 15km southeast of Pua town, in Silaphet district, off Highway 1081.
Opening: Daily, November through July.
Entrance fee: Free.
Getting there: Take a Pua - Silaphet bus and ask the driver to drop you off for the falls, or better still rent a bicycle or motorcycle in Pua.
