Muli Travel Guide

Situated on the border of Yunnan and Sichuan provinces, Muli is a pretty village situated at the foot of a spectacular mountain range.

Pilgrims visit this region from all over the world, many traveling for several days to get here. The Gongga mountain range is particularly sacred and people endure all sorts of hardships just to spend time walking along the high, rocky ridges. Of course, there are spectacular views to be seen here and trekking through this area is a memorable experience.

Although best visited in the summer, there are people who prefer to visit during the winter, when temperatures often go below freezing and the wind can be very strong. Luckily, there are plenty of places to stay for those who don’t mind homestay accommodation.

Getting There & Away

Muli is easy to reach by train as trains arrive at various places such as Chengdu (10 hours), where there is an international airport. It is also possible to catch a train to Muli from Kunming or a bus from places such as Xichang (8 hours).
