Situated in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China, the city of Manzhouli is the busiest land port, which borders with Russia. The city is divided into ten districts and one town.
The surrounding Hulunbuir grasslands offer picturesque farmlands and rolling hills. Close by is Lake Hulun, which is China's fifth largest freshwater lake with an area of over 1,000 square miles. Manzhouli has a strong influence from the neighboring Russia, which can be seen throughout the city's streets.
Manzhouli has some great outdoors attractions to visit such as the Hulun Buir Grasslands, which are enormous and during the spring months are filled with beautiful wild flowers. Inside the city centre you can find the old Sino-Russian border crossing that has a small museum documenting the history of the area.
Manzhouli is easily reached by air with daily flights arriving to the city's airport from Beijing and other Inner Mongolian towns. Flights from Beijing take around 1 hour, 30 minutes. It is also possible to take the train, which travels from Beijing to Moscow in Russia. Buses run from Beijing although are less popular as they are uncomfortable and slow.
