Mamasa Travel Guide

The small and isolated town of Mamasa is located in central South Sulawesi, in the Mamasa Region. The town is approximately 100kms from the coastline and boasts scenic mountains.

Although Mamasa is only about 100kms from the coastal town of Polewali, the road there is terrible, traveling back and forth up and over hills and mountainsides. There are transports services which range from small buses to pickup trucks that make the journey in around five hours.

The main attraction of Mamasa is the beautiful scenic terrain, which includes spectacular mountains and a picturesque fresh water river. There are some interesting villages and an abundance of traditional architecture.

Getting There & Away

Reaching Mamasa is only possible by road from the coastal town of Polewali, which is around 250kms from the capital city of Makassar. Makassar has an airport with daily flights from the international airports at Jakarta and Bali. The journey from Polewali to Mamasa takes around 5 hours, with small roads passing through the mountainous terrain.
