Maluk Travel Guide

Maluk is a small town in southwest Sumbawa that is best known for its tropical beach, Maluk Beach. It is most popular with surfers who head here in season to catch the Super Suck wave.

The village-cum-town of Maluk has good enough facilities for a few days’ stay while enjoying the surf. There are several shops in town, along with a dentist’s and a couple of expat bars. Locals come to Maluk to shop, yet if it didn’t have a beach there’d be no reason to visit.

Maluk Beach is a stunning white sandy beach that arcs around to form a small bay. The Super Suck gets up to four or five meters during large swells when it forms big left barrels. Nearby Sekongkang is another popular surf destination known for its large waves and more upmarket accommodation.

Getting There & Away

Sumbawa Besar, the Sumbawa capital, is the gateway town to Maluk. Flights arrive daily from Denpasar in Bali and Mataram in Lombok within the hour. Although not far, the journey to Maluk by bus from Sumbawa Besar takes a few hours due to the rugged terrain. Boats come in from the east coast of Lombok via Port Tano near Sumbawa Besar.
