Located in Maluku Province, Leitimur is surrounded by natural beauty and is a good place to rest and relax after spending some time in one of the province’s vibrant cities.
Don’t expect to find many noisy neon beach bars in Leitimur; this is mainly a location for those who want to chill out for a while. Trekking is a popular activity during the day, while many simply chill out on one of the area’s beautiful beaches. People tend to gather on the beach in the evening to watch the sunset, accompanied by a glass or two of the local fire water.
Although there are plenty of places to spend the night in Leitimur, many offering beautiful ocean views, the town’s close proximity to the city of Surabaya makes this a good place to visit on a daytrip. However, the fresh seafood barbecues on the beach in the evening are a good reason to stay here overnight.
Getting There & Away
Leitimur is best reached from Surabaya, which has its own airport, receiving daily flights from Jakarta (2 hours). There is a ferry service connecting Surabaya to Leitimur and there are also ferries from towns and cities such as Jakarta, Leihitu, and Kota Ambon.
