The beaches of Lantau are known to be among the best in this area, and there are plenty of stretches of sand to choose from. The cool, clear water is perfect for swimming and a number of water sports such as diving, kayaking and sailing. Found on the south side of Lantau, Discovery Bay is a great place to stay for those who like luxury and Western style bars and restaurants.

The northern part of Lantau contains a number of small villages, while the most attractive beaches can be found on the western and southern coasts. Despite its appeal and size, Lantau is significantly less developed than Hong Kong Island, making this an ideal tropical getaway.

Of course, the main attraction here has to be Hong Kong Disneyland, which fist opened in 2005. However, there are plenty of other interesting things to see and do such as the enormous Tian Tan Buddha statue, Po Lin Monastery and traditional fishing village of Tai O.
