Lan Co Beach Travel Guide

Covering more than five miles of coastline, Lan Co Beach is the leading resort destination in Vietnam’s Thua Thien-Hue Province]]. Backed by the Rang Cua mountain range and virtually surrounded by water, the bungalows and chalets on this peninsula are an ideal getaway.

The white sand beach gives way to shallow waters that are constantly warmed by the sun. Swimming, sunbathing and rocking in a hammock under coconut palms are top activities. Before the resort was established, Lan Co was a sleepy fishing village, and even today this is a prime place to catch lobster, prawns squid and pomfret. It goes without saying the seafood restaurants at Lan Co Beach are second to none.

Aside from the beach itself, there are a few actual attractions, including An Cu Hong village to see the large stone carved with a royal poem. Emperor Khai Dinh composed the poem a century ago after an inspiring visit to Lan Co Beach.

Excursions into the mountains reveal fresh-water springs, canyons and alpine lakes. The best way to enjoy the scenery is to join a trek or at least hire a guide at Lan Co.

Getting There & Away

National Highway 1A follows the coast and directly connects Lan Co Beach with Hue. Phu Bai Airport operates comprehensive domestic connections and a few international links. A colonial-era railway follows the beach but is has more to offer in the way of atmosphere than on-time connections. Public buses are the most popular means of travelling to and from the resort.
