Kota Biak Travel Guide

Located to the north of Cendrawasih Bay, Kota Biak is the main city in this region of Papua and a convenient place to stop for a day or two.

Kota Biak is served by Frans Kaisiepo Airport, which makes this a good city to use as a base if you are exploring Papua. Although there isn’t too much going on in the city, Kota Biak is surrounded by plenty of natural beauty to explore.

To the east of Kota Biak is the Padaido archipelago, which consists of around 30 islands of varying sizes. A great way to explore the area is by taking a boat trip. There are plenty of tour companies to choose from in the area, and it is possible to take day trips that combine sailing with scuba diving or snorkeling.

Getting to Kota Biak is relatively simply as visitors can arrive at the city’s Frans Kaisiepo Airport. There are connections to the airport from nearby towns and cities such as the international airport at Port Moresby (1 hour), Jayapura and Manokwari.
