Koh Nhek Travel Guide
Koh Nhek (Kaôh Nhêk) is a quiet Cambodian riverside town on the Sre Pok River in Koh Nhek district, 100 miles north of the provincial town, and is best known for the numerous nearby little river islands of Laos' Si Phan Don.
- Worth It?
- Koh Nhek's not worth the effort to get to as it's way east of Phnom Penh and doesn't have that much to see.
- What to Do
- walks along the Sre Pok River, market shopping, seeing nearby Banlung and Sen Monorom.
- Best Time to Go
- visit Koh Nhek in the December through March dry season and avoid the wet season at all costs.
- How Long?
- A day or two is enough to enjoy Koh Nhek fully.
Other than the market and walking along the river, Koh Nhek doesn't have much to entice the international traveler. You'd be better off sticking to Banlung with its magnificent surroundings or Sen Monorom farther south with its many hill tribes, rolling hills and striking waterfalls.
Travel to Koh Nhek - Getting There
Koh Nhek is very remote, lying between Banlung and Sen Monorom on the Route 141 dirt road. It is best to travel here via Banlung, which in itself is a long bus journey from Phnom Penh via Stung Treng. You will then need to take local transport to Koh Nhek from Banlung. There is a small airstrip in Banlung although the nearest international airport is in Phnom Penh.
