Humen Travel Guide

Situated on the east bank of the Pearl River Delta, Humen is a sleepy town with its feet set firmly in the past. It boasts beautiful sights and a host of traditions.

Humen is mostly popular with history buffs as it played a prominent role in the 19th century Opium War. There are a couple of interesting museums here where the full story is depicted with colorful models and displays. The city’s forts are also worth a look, while there are plenty of places to grab a bite to eat near the town’s marketplace.

Although Humen can make an interesting place to stop on the way between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, there is little reason to stop here for long. Simply take an hour or two to explore the Opium War relics and then continue on the road to one of the area’s large and lively cities.

Getting There & Away

The easiest way to reach Humen is to fly into Hong Kong International Airport and take a ferry (50 minutes). There are also direct buses to Humen from Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
