Gunung Klabat Travel Guide

Gunung Klabat (also known as Mount Klabat) is the highest volcano on Sulawesi Island. It can be found just to the east of Manado City in the north of the island.

It is an inactive volcano, having never had a reported eruption. The mountain is home to a small, shallow lake at its summit, which is a highlight for anyone brave and fit enough to climb it.

It is located in a beautiful region and is surrounded by smaller mountains, lakes, thick forests and plantations. Most people arrive here to take advantage of its beauty, serenity and adventurous climbing opportunities.

The nearby city of Manado is the capital of the island and offers a wide selection of accommodation and fairly good tourist infrastructure. There are daytrips offered from the city to the mountain which can include climbing equipment, lunch and all transfers.

Getting There & Away

The closest international airport is Ninoy Aquino International Airport, in Manila. However, at over 900 miles away, it is necessary to take a domestic flight from here to Sam Ratulangi Airport in Manado. The mountain is a short drive away from Manado’s airport and there is plenty of accommodation in Manado.
