About Gili Meno#
Gili Meno is the central and smallest of the three Gili Islands off the northwest coast of Lombok, Indonesia. It is known for quieter beaches, snorkeling and small-scale tourism.
The island has low, flat terrain with sandy beaches, a shallow saltwater lake in its interior and coral reef fringing the shore that supports snorkeling and turtle sightings. There is a small turtle conservation presence on the island.
Motorised vehicles are not used on the Gili islands; visitors move around by foot, bicycle or horse-drawn cart (cidomo), which preserves a low-impact, pedestrian character.
Gili Meno lies between Gili Trawangan and the Lombok mainland and is reached by short boat trips from Lombok and from neighboring Gili islands.
- Relative size and atmosphere: Smallest of the three main Gili Islands, it is significantly quieter and less developed than Gili Trawangan and Gili Air, making it popular for day trips and low-key stays.
What to See#
- Salt lake: A central shallow saltwater lake lies inland on the island and is a distinctive landscape feature visible from short walks around the interior.
- Turtle and snorkeling sites: A small local turtle conservation effort and snorkeling sites around the island attract visitors looking for marine wildlife encounters.
- Beaches and transport: Long sandy beaches and low-rise tourist bungalows form the main visitor areas; motorised vehicles are prohibited across the Gili islands and local transport is by foot, bicycle or horse-drawn cart (cidomo).
