Most international travelers arrive via Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport (DIL), Timor-Leste’s primary gateway and the country’s only international airport with scheduled commercial service. DIL serves Dili, the seaside capital known for Portuguese-era buildings, resistance museums, waterfront cafés, and the Cristo Rei statue, and it is also where visa on arrival is issued for many nationalities.
Beyond Dili, Baucau Airport (BCH) is the key airport for Timor-Leste’s historic second city, Baucau, with colonial buildings and long sandy beaches. Commander in Chief of FALINTIL, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, International Airport (UAI) supports access to Atauro, an offshore island reached by a short ferry ride from Dili and known for reef biodiversity and diving sites. Oecusse Route of the Sandalwood International Airport (OEC) matters for reaching the far-west area around Pante Macassar.
With four airports offering scheduled commercial service, domestic flying can complement travel by sea to Atauro Island and overland routes such as the bus connection via the Mota’ain-Batugade border.
