Demak's close proximity to Jakarta makes this a good daytrip destination and many people are content to simply spend an hour or two wandering around the town. However, there are a few good places to stay for those who want to spend the night before heading off to one of the neighboring towns of cities.

Visitors who take the time to fully explore Demak will notice a mixture of distinctly different building styles throughout the town, with Chinese, Indian and Portuguese influences. This comes out in the local cuisine, making this a particularly good place to eat. A great way to explore is by hiring a bicycle and exploring at your own pace. There are also plenty of jeepney drivers offering to take tourists on tours of the town.

The easiest way to get to Demak is by flying into the international airport in Jakarta and then taking a bus to Demak (40 minutes). There is also a railway system linking Jakarta to Demak (30 minutes).
