Church of Panaghia Kapnikarea

The Church of Panaghia Kapnikarea is a small Byzantine Orthodox church in central Athens, located on Ermou Street and generally dated to the 11th century. It is one of the oldest surviving churches in the city and remains an active place of worship.

A compact, single-aisle masonry building with a domed cross-in-square plan, it sits tight against modern commercial buildings and is most often viewed from the pedestrian thoroughfare.
