Boeng Yeak Lom Travel Guide

Boeng Yeak Lom is a stunning crater lake in the wilds of northeast Cambodia and is ideal for those with a sense of adventure and who are not too bothered about spending long stretches on a bus.

The crater is located a few miles from the town of Banlung in an area surrounded by dense jungle and waterfalls. It is perfectly circular in shape, with some speculating it was created by a meteor strike. It is, in fact, the result of a volcanic eruption 700,000 years ago.

You can swim in the clear waters here or perhaps go walking in the jungle to the many nearby waterfalls. Rafting is also popular. There are also many hill tribe villages in the region as well as legends to learn about.

Getting There & Away

Nearby Banlung has an airport although flights from Phnom Penh International Airport are few and far between. Most people make the journey here by bus, which takes a full day and goes via Stung Treng. Taxis offer the fastest option at about 10 hours. Boeng Yeak Lom is an hour’s walk from Banlung or a few minutes by moto.
