Bird Island

Bird Island is a small, protected island in the Inner Islands group of the Republic of Seychelles, noted for its seabird colonies. The island is managed primarily as a nature reserve for breeding birds and marine species.

Visitors and researchers encounter large concentrations of seabirds including terns and noddies and seasonal nesting activity by marine turtles; human activity is limited to reduce disturbance. Facilities are minimal and access is usually by prior arrangement, often from larger Seychellois islands.

The island has long been recognized locally for its birdlife and has been managed in recent decades for conservation rather than development. Conservation measures focus on protecting nesting birds and turtles and controlling introduced species.

Bird Island lies among the northern Inner Islands of Seychelles and is administered as part of that island group; its nearest population and services are on the main islands of the republic.
