What to Do
visit the ethnic villages, take a trip to the nearby bird sanctuary, sample the local seafood.
Best Time to Go
the city really only experiences two seasons, the best of which for visiting is the dry season between December and May.
How Long?
One day; overnight at most.
Trivia
the town is home to a few notable residents, including former vice-president of the Republic of Vietnam, Nguyen Ngoc Tho.

Bac Lieu makes it onto very few pages of popular guide books and even when it does, it's rarely given much more than a cursory mention. For this reason, the town is overlooked by most travelers; making it the ideal place for anyone needing a break from those Vietnamese towns and cities that suffer from tourist over-saturation.

Besides its Vietnamese population, there are a number of ethnic residents residing in and around the town including those from Khmer and Kinh tribes. Tourists are generally welcome to make visits to ethnic areas and, indeed, they are considered among Bac Lieu's biggest attractions.

Travel to Bac Lieu - Getting There

There are public buses from Ho Chi Minh City but Bac Lieu can also be visited on private tours arranged at travel agents in Vietnam's largest city. Can Tho hosts the nearest domestic airport and is 3 hours away by bus while Ho Chi Minh City Airport is the nearest international facility.
