Ao Bang Thao, also known as Bang Tao Bay or Laguna Beach, is one of the quieter beaches of Phuket and can be found just north of Surin Beach, 20 minutes or so by car from Patong.

- Ao Bang Thao is the largest bay in Phuket, stretching for eight kilometers.
It is a huge sweeping bay which is backed by a few upscale resorts and a line of shade trees. There are one or two bars and restaurants in the Bang Thao area but the real draw for visitors is the peace and quiet. The village area of Bang Thao is made up of a combination of Muslim, Buddhist, and Chinese residents.
Ao Bang Thao is the big attraction, stretching for eight kilometers and featuring Thai food stalls and laid-back guest houses. Major resorts here include the massive Laguna complex, the Banyan Tree, and the Sheraton. You will also find some boutique shopping in this area.
Travel to Ao Bang Thao - Getting There
Ao Bang Thao is closer to Phuket International Airport than most other Phuket beaches and is best reached by taxi - about a 30-minute ride. Phuket Town is about 40 minutes from the airport while reaching Patong Beach takes a bit longer.
