Sugarloaf USA Travel Guide

The first thing that comes to mind when hearing the name ‘Sugarloaf’ is world class skiing. Located in Franklin County, western Maine, Sugarloaf USA is one of the largest ski resorts in Maine and boasts the highest skiing elevation and the most vertical rise. Although primarily a winter resort, Sugarloaf Mountain is also a popular summer and spring time destination, with its untouched beauty, hiking trails and bird watching areas.

At an elevation of 4,250 feet, Sugarloaf Mountain is the third highest mountain in the state of Maine, behind Baxter Peak and Hamlin Peak. Sugarloaf is most famous for its skiing, but is also known for the fact that the famous Appalachian Trail passes within a mile of the summit. This 2,170 mile trail, leading from Georgia to Maine attracts hundreds of devoted hikers each year.

Sugarloaf USA, the mega ski resort, is located on the north side of Sugarloaf Mountain and boasts 54 miles of trails or 134 marked trails! The resort has fifteen chairlifts and offers the only over-the-treeline lift in the whole of the northeast. The closest city to the ski resort is Lewiston.
