Zhujiayu Travel Guide

Zhujiayu is a small village in Shandong Province, eastern China. It is found on the coast of the East China Sea and is popular with those who like to get off the beaten track.

It is located about two hours from the larger town of Qufu and arriving here is like taking a step back in time. The village is incredibly traditional, with activities such as tofu making, weaving and paper cutting all very popular.

The village is famous for the longevity of its residents, with many of them living well into their 90s. They are all very welcoming of tourists, although they carry on with their daily routine, which is a large part of the village’s charm. Zhujiayu provides a rare glimpse into the life of the rural Chinese community.

The village does not boast a lively nightlife or an abundance of tourist facilities, but there are some quaint guest houses, excellent local eateries, a wealth of natural attractions and friendly locals to get to know.

Getting There & Away

Jinan Yaoqiang International Airport is the closest international airport to Zhujiayu. It serves a number of international and domestic destinations and from here it is fairly easy to reach the small village. There are buses making the 160km journey to Quxu (3 hours) or if you fly into the domestic Jining Jiaxiang Airport (1 hour, 30 minutes). From Quxu, you will need to change buses at the bus station and make the 2-hour onward journey to Zhujiayu.
