Yushu Travel Guide

Located in the southwest region of Qinghai Province, Yushi is situated very close to the Tibetan border at the mouth of three of China’s largest rivers, making it a very important ancient hub.

It dates back thousands of years and has been governed in its time by both Tibetan and Chinese regimes. It is a hotpot of cultures, with local ethnic hill tribes calling it home as well as Tibetan monks and Chinese merchants.

The culture has been largely influenced by Tibet, ensuring that there is a unique mix of Chinese and Tibetan traditions. While there is not a lot to see, simply walking around the different towns is an eye-opener as the people are in traditional dress and many of them spend their days making handicrafts or tea.

The surrounding countryside is stunning, as with the whole of this province, with mountains towering over the small villages and lush forests separating many different communities.
