Wuyi Shan Travel Guide

Located up in the wilds of north Fujian Province, eastern China, Wuyi Shan (Mount Wuyi) is a popular scenic area. The mountain is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is accessed by rail from Fuzhou.

Wuyi Shan is one of wilderness with karst limestone formations, gushing rivers, and ancient temples and is a lot less touristy than other mountains in Fujian. Many people come here for the outdoors and to go bamboo rafting down the canyon, or trekking to take in the many temples.

The best way to explore Wuyi Shan is by hiring a car with a driver although local buses ply the region for those who prefer to go at it alone.

Wuyi Shan is known for its tea and the Big Red Robe (Da Hong Pao) is a gorgeous valley in the region that has some of the best tea in China. It is also an eternally beautiful and serene place. The hardboiled tea eggs are a cheap and tasty snack on Wuyi Shan.
