Wanding Border Checkpoint Travel Guide

Wanding Border Checkpoint is one of the Burma border crossing points in the Dehong Prefecture of southwest Yunnan. It is on the main G320 highway, 866kms from Kunming, and is 30kms from Ruili, the other border town.

Wanding is China’s youngest city. It has a population of less than 100,000 mainly ethnic peoples and is a buzzing market town. Kublai Khan and his gang came rampaging through this region and it is also the spot of the historic Burma Road, which connected Burma with China during WWII.

As a town it is a fairly bustling one and more appealing than nearby Ruili as a crossing point. China and Burma both share Wanding. There’s not that much in the way of sightseeing near Wanding Border Checkpoint due to it being such a new town. Nearby Ruili has a bit of interest in the countryside, with the Jiele Golden Pagoda complex nearby and the Tiger-Jumping Rocks farther afield.
