Taipa Island Travel Guide

Situated just under three kilometers from Macau Peninsula]], the picturesque island of Taipa is a pretty place to unwind for a while and explore the natural beauty of this region of the world.

Taipa Island was a former Portuguese settlement and there are still plenty of interesting Portuguese buildings and monuments here, making a great contrast to the ancient and modern Chinese styles. Despite being an island, Taipa has land connections to the surrounding area by three bridges; Governador Nobre de Carvalho Bridge, Friendship Bridge and the Sai Van Bridge.

Taipa Island is blessed with a number of high hills, providing spectacular views of the area. A great way to get an idea of the beauty of the area is by climbing to the top of Big Taipa Hill. As you would expect, there are plenty of colorful temples to explore here. Among the most interesting are the Pou Tai Un Temple, Small Kun Yam Temple, Sam Po Temple and Pak Tai Temple.

This is also a good place to learn about the history and culture of the area as there are plenty of museums to explore. The Museum of Taipa and Coloane History features a number of detailed displays, while the Taipa Houses Museum shows a number of 20th century houses which have been carefully restored to depict the living conditions during that period.
