Resonant Sand Gorge Travel Guide

The impressive Resonant Sand Gorge is located in Inner Mongolia in northern China and is a popular tourist attraction for those seeking a spectacular adventure.

The Kubuqi Desert extends over 200 miles east to west in this Inner Mongolia province. The sand dunes range from 30 to 40 feet in height, and they make up 80 percent of the entire desert. The Resonant Sand Gorge is positioned on the north edge of the Kubuqi Desert and has a gradient of 45 degrees rising to nearly 300 feet high.

Once arriving at the picturesque gorge you can enjoy the beautiful views, go parasailing, slide down the dunes, go on a camel ride or just sit and build a sand castle. Most tour groups provide food and refreshments as well as pre-planned activities. The gorge is said to make a ‘shhhh’ sound from the desert winds that echo through the valley; this is where the name comes from.

Resonant Sand Gorge is around 20 miles from the major city of Baotou, which has an airport, shopping and business facilities as well as a wide choice of accommodation. Tour groups are easily organised from Baotou, which is the best way to see the gorge.
