Qiyun Shan Travel Guide

Qiyun Shan (Mount Qiyun, White Mountain) sits right down in the south of Anhui Province, an hour away from Tunxi near the town of Yanqian. It is famously one of the four main Taoist mountains of China and is not far from Huangshan Mountain.

Although only 585m above sea level, Qiyun Shan boasts plenty of scenic areas and is less touristy than nearby Yellow Mountain. It lies within a national forest park and is split into five scenic areas. These include: Yuehua Street, Floor on Floor, Southern Mountain, Yunyan Lake, and the Hengjiang River.

Yuehua Street is the main place to head for on Qiyun Shan, with its Hui houses and Daoist temples. The Supreme Simplicity Temple of the Mysterious Heaven is Yuehua Street’s most visited and sits across three of the mountain’s peaks, those of Western Drum, Jade Screen, and Eastern Bell.

Those who make a beeline for Qiyun Shan will also see Huangshan Mountain, which lies 60kms away nearer Tunxi. It is one of China’s star attractions and features very lofty, almost spire-like, peaks.

Getting There & Away

Qiyun Shan is an hour by bus away from Tunxi, the nearest sizeable gateway. Flights arrive from Beijing to Tunxi Airport in around 2 hours, although Shanghai Pudong International Airport provides better connections and trains and buses run from there.
