Memot Travel Guide

This dusty eastern Cambodian district capital in Kampong Cham Province, close to the border with Vietnam, lies 80kms east of Kampong Cham, the provincial capital. The town, known for its prehistoric ruins, is connected to Kratie and Kampong Cham by National Highway 7.

Memot takes its name after a prehistoric culture that lived in the area.

While there is no official international border crossing between Cambodia and the Vietnamese town of Tay Ninh, 80kms away, there is an official crossing 44kms southeast of Memot at Trapeang Phlong. Those who do visit Memot usually arrive by bus via Kratie or Kampong Cham.

The main attraction in Memot is the Memot Center for Archaeology, where remains of local Iron Age settlements are displayed. There are also a handful of archaeological sites in the area that may be of interest to historians.

Travel to Memot - Getting There

Memot is best reached by local bus from Kratie or Kampong Cham, both connected by National Highway 7. The journey to Kampong Cham takes about 1 hour, 30 minutes. From Kratie via Stung Treng, Phnom Penh's international airport can be reached in 13 hours by road.
