Trivia
Much of the land in Magwe is leased out to the Burma Oil Company by the state.

The Yenangyaung petroleum wells occupy a lot of land near Magwe town, while the so called Burmese twinsa also have a fair amount of land where they dig the wells and extract the oil by hand via rope and pulley. Magwe is also known for its production of lacquered wood trays, bowls and dishes and items can be picked up for a snip at the town's main market.

The adventure types can arrange a boat trip on the nearby Irrawaddy River through guesthouses or independently. The river lies a fair way to the east of Magwe.
