Chishui Travel Guide

Chishui sits right up in the northwest of Guizhou Province on the border with Sichuan. It has the nickname ‘Jurassic Park’ due to the nearby huge waterfalls and bamboo forests and is accessed from Luzhou, Sichuan.

Chishui means ‘red water’, and gets its name from all the red sandstone in the area. The town is not much to look at but is a good base for exploring the area and has a few well preserved streets with traditional buildings. The main reason for coming to Chishui is for the nearby Shizhangdong Falls. They are massive and are the second biggest in China. The falls have a fantastic setting amid stunning spinulose tree ferns.

Sidonggou Nature Park in the Sidonggou Valley is closer to Chishui and also comes with Jurassic ferns. There are also sizeable falls here and the walking is great too. Jinshagou is 45kms from Chishui City and comes with the Chishui National Nature Reserve.
