Question: I don’t speak a word of Malay. Is it difficult to get by just with English?
Answer: Bruneian Malay is the official language of Brunei; a closely-related tongue of Malaysian Malay. English and Chinese Mandarin are also widely spoken and understood, however, and you won’t have any problems checking into hotels and using taxis in English. Road signs are in Arabic and Roman scripts.
