Ban Pako Travel Guide

Ban Pako is a small village to the east of Vientiane that is popular with day-trippers from the Lao capital. In this region, which is hugely popular with eco-tourists, you will also find Ban Pako Lodge on the edge of the beautiful Phu Khao Khuay National Park.

Ban Pako Lodge lies on the edge of Phu Khao Khuay protected area.

The village of Ban Pako lies on the river just a few miles from Vientiane, with the houses of the village up on stilts. There is not much to do here bar marvelling at the houses and their residents.

Ban Pako Lodge is farther east on the Nam Ngum River, about 30 miles from Vientiane. It is a beautiful spot and one of the greenest areas in the country, surrounded as it is by the deep Lao jungle. Options for getting active here are excellent, with jungle treks being very popular.

Travel to Ban Pako - Getting There

Buses go to Ban Pako on the main highway 13 throughout the day from Vientiane. For Ban Pako Lodge, get off the bus at Som Sa Mai and then take a 30-minute boat ride along the Nam Ngum River. Vientiane International Airport is close to the capital and receives flights from all over.
